Productive Choices

Funded by the Chicago Department of Family and Support Services and the U.S. Department of Labor, this program is for you if you are 18 to 29 years old, have been released from a state or federal facility within the past 60 days and are seeking a new start in life. 

We can help you overcome obstacles and barriers to employment by developing marketable skills through On-the-Job Work Experience, Vocational Training, and Work & Life Readiness classes.  We also encourage GED, ABE, and/or Literacy Education as important keys to employability and success.  You will also be able to take advantage of our exclusive job development, placement, and retention services to ultimately help you secure and maintain employment.  In order to quality for the Productive Choices Program, you only need to receive a referral from the Career Advancement Network (CAN) and make the productive choice by choosing Phalanx!

Customized Job Training

Customized Job Training has many of the benefits of Productive Choices except for a focus on job-specific training for individuals age 21 or older with a felony conviction regardless of date of release.


TO ENROLL:

Productive Choices

-Initial Site visits are held Wednesdays at 10:00 a.m. & 1:00 p.m.

-Orientations are held Fridays at 2:00 p.m.

-For individuals age 18:29

 

CUSTOMIZED JOB TRAINING

-Orientation are scheduled on an individual basis

 

 

TO QUALIFY:     

  • Authorization to work in the U.S.
  • Social Security Number
  • Compliance with Selective Service
  • City of Chicago resident
  • Proof of felony conviction (excluding sexual offenders)
  • Birth certificate
  • State ID and/or Driver's License

And one or more of the following:

  • Referral from Career Advancement Network (CAN), City Colleges, IDHS, IETC, or Chicago Public Libraries
  • Food Stamp Recipient
  • TANF Recipient
  • Low-to-moderate income
